Much ado about Adams Avenue Street Fair: As Seen through the Viewfinders of Safelight’s Photo Community
At 44, the Adams Avenue Street Fair is still going strong, stubbornly defying both its age and the notion that monoculture is headed for extinction. From September 19 to 20, this year’s festival serenaded thousands of San Diegans with a sonically diverse slate of 75 musical acts across seven stages, while 300 vendors transformed the 10-block stretch of Normal Heights’ main thoroughfare into a sprawling neighborhood bazaar.
For the past several years, Uptown 11 Studios has pounded the pavement to capture a point of view on the controlled chaos and spectacle of Southern California’s largest free music festival. This year, with the help of Safelight Labs, we put out an open call for film photographers to take over the beat, documenting the festival on a single roll of film and interpreting the experience through their own subjective visions.
